Hyaluronic Acid Intra-Articular Injections in Patients Affected by Moderate to Severe Glenohumeral Osteoarthritis: A Prospective Randomized Study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Glenohumeral osteoarthritis (OA) is characterized by the appearance of typical degenerative changes in the cartilage, synovialmembrane, synovialfluid, and subchondral bone.1OA is one of the main reasons of persistent shoulder pain and reduced range of motion (ROM)2,3 and can compromise the activitiesofworkanddaily living leading to thedevelopmentof depressive syndromes.1,4 The treatment of this pathology can be conservative in patients affected by grade I–III OA or grade IV OA with contraindications to surgical treatment. The conservative approach generally includes intra-articular injections with corticosteroids, hyaluronic acid (HA), physical therapy, or the use of oral analgesics.5–11 However, analgesics and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are often associatedwith essential side effects.12–14 Viscosupplementation with HA intra-articular injections is a nonsurgical treatment that can improve pain relief and lead to a partial recovery

Hyaluronic Acid Intra-Articular Injections in Patients Affected by Moderate to Severe Glenohumeral Osteoarthritis: A Prospective Randomized Study
Purpose The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of intra-articular injection treatment with high molecular weight HA (Hyalubrix, 30 mg/2 mL, molecular weight > 1,500 kDa) in patients affected by moderate to severe glenohumeral osteoarthritis (OA). Methods Seventy-eight patients, affected by shoulder OA grade II-IV were randomized in two groups. Patients included in case ...
متن کاملGlenohumeral Joint Injections
CONTEXT Intra-articular injections into the glenohumeral joint are commonly performed by musculoskeletal providers, including orthopaedic surgeons, family medicine physicians, rheumatologists, and physician assistants. Despite their frequent use, there is little guidance for injectable treatments to the glenohumeral joint for conditions such as osteoarthritis, adhesive capsulitis, and rheumatoi...

Background: Conservative treatment needs to be tried prior to surgical treatment of knee osteoarthritis. This study was designed to evaluate the short-term effects of dextrose prolotherapy on pain relief and functional improvement in knee osteoarthritis in comparison with intra-articular hyaluronic acid injections. Methods: In this double blind clinical trial, 100 patients, aged 40-70 years, ...
متن کاملComparison of intra-articular injections of Hyaluronic Acid and Corticosteroid in the treatment of Osteoarthritis of the hip in comparison with intra-articular injections of Bupivacaine. Design of a prospective, randomized, controlled study with blinding of the patients and outcome assessors
BACKGROUND Although intra-articular hyaluronic acid is well established as a treatment for osteoarthritis of the knee, its use in hip osteoarthritis is not based on large randomized controlled trials. There is a need for more rigorously designed studies on hip osteoarthritis treatment as this subject is still very much under debate. METHODS/DESIGN Randomized, controlled trial with a three-arm...
